About

Getting It Write, Inc.

How It Came to Be

My journey started when I got involved with office technology, working for tech companies that were developing technology for use by office workers. They thought they were creating a paperless office, but that dream never came true.

I worked for one of the big accounting firms. I was a manager on the consulting side of the house, specializing in business process improvement. I loved the work and learned a lot about technology, writing, analytical thinking, marketing, and working with people ranging from C-suite executives to the folks on the front line.

Eventually, I grew tired of the extensive travel and decided I wanted to get out of the corporate world. In 2004 I founded Getting It Write, Inc. Initially, I started working with local businesses to write things they didn’t have the time or skill to create. Then, I got introduced to a local real estate agent.

I discovered a new niche. Agents were never trained to market themselves. In addition, websites for real estate agents were just starting to revolutionize the real estate industry. I worked with over 700 agents, helping them create brands, logos, websites, and marketing materials.

Some years later, I changed focus to work with tech companies. But I also worked with companies in a variety of other industries such as marketing agencies, law firms, and startups.

I was successful in achieving results such as increasing site traffic to blog posts by 500%, call to action form submissions by 400%, and average SERP position by 28%. I was also named to SoftwareWorld’s 50 Best B2B SaaS Freelance Writers Who Will Multiply Your Website Traffic. (see #31)

I was still enjoying the work, but as the internet space got more and more crowded, I thought there must be something more I could do to help clients grow their businesses. And, in fact, there was. I discovered Educational Email Courses.

Electronic Email Courses

Why I Focus on Educational Email Courses

The pattern I kept running into was the same regardless of industry. Companies were producing content and investing in lead generation, but the content wasn’t doing the work it used to do or needed to do. The internet had just become too crowded.

Prospects would download a PDF and disappear. A white paper would sit on a website unread. Outreach would generate interest that never converted because prospects didn’t yet know enough to feel confident moving forward.

Educational Email Courses (EECs) solve that problem in a way that other formats don’t.

An EEC gives prospects something worth opting into — a structured, multi-day learning experience that answers the questions they’re already asking. It delivers value before any sale is attempted. It builds familiarity and credibility over time, email by email. And it does all of that automatically, without requiring ongoing effort from a sales team.

That’s the mechanism and it works across industries. The subject matter changes. The underlying structure doesn’t.

What I Bring to the Work

My experience lets me put myself into the prospect’s shoes and translate complex information into content that connects with real buyers. That’s the skill an EEC requires more than any other.

A course that reads like a product brochure won’t hold a prospect’s attention. A course that talks over the reader’s head won’t build confidence. An effective EEC meets buyers where they are — in the language they use and addressing questions they’re asking.

That requires understanding your buyer’s perspective, not just your service’s features. It requires writing that is clear without being shallow, and specific without being inaccessible. It requires knowing what to include, what to leave out, and in what order to present it so a prospect moves from uncertain to informed.

I’ve spent two decades doing that kind of writing for clients in competitive industries. That experience is what I bring to every EEC I build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because they are so effective, an Educational Email Course is usually the first thing I talk to clients about. However, most executives I work with have a problem that content can solve. I will write LinkedIn articles, newsletters, social media, and blog posts to solve that problem.

No. Educational Email Courses work equally well for small and mid-sized businesses. In fact, they can be a significant competitive advantage for smaller companies that need to build credibility against better-known names in their space. And, since it runs on autopilot, it saves small company executives time.

An Educational Email Course is most beneficial to companies that have a long sales cycle, a high-stakes product or service, and prospects that need to be educated about their options and who want to establish trust with a vendor before committing. Think of companies like tech firms, consultants, business coaches, and digital marketers.

If your prospects need to understand what they’re buying, why they need it, and why your company is the right choice before they pick up the phone or fill out a contact form, an EEC is worth considering.

Absolutely. We can schedule a short call to talk about where you stand with your marketing, where you want to go, and how we can work together to get you there. There is no charge.
